The Role
A technology consulting firm in Chacaíto, Caracas, between April and November 2008. I joined for a specific product delivery—Comunidad Laboral, a digital job board and recruiting portal—within a dedicated three-person team coordinating closely with four other technical staff members.
Comunidad Laboral
I owned the full product lifecycle: native PHP backend without third-party frameworks, relational database architecture in MySQL, and an accessible frontend in semantic HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript.
I also made all UI and interaction design decisions and created the brand logo: I presented a creative concept that was selected for the final product. This was the first engagement where visual design and software development were intertwined in my responsibilities—a dual capability that became a recurring hallmark of my career.
From MooTools to jQuery
The codebase originally utilized MooTools, which we completely migrated to jQuery as it was emerging as the cross-browser web standard. It was my first comprehensive frontend library migration: while it introduced no outward functional changes for end users, it was technically necessary because staying with a declining library meant losing community support, plugins, and documentation when troubleshooting edge cases.
