The Period
Following the closing of my creative studio, I continued independently as a freelance engineer from 2014 to July 2016 (spanning the entire year of 2015). The central project was Chispa Sport, which had originated as a studio client and which I advanced as chief architect and lead engineer. That platform opened doors to collaborating with the professional baseball team Leones del Caracas, followed by custom theme engineering for a Colombian digital agency.
This period also marked the beginning of a decade-long consistency: since 2014, with few brief exceptions, all of my professional engagements have been conducted remotely.
Chispa Sport
A platform providing amateur baseball and softball leagues with the sophisticated statistical analytics typically reserved for professional organizations. It has its own project case study.
I engineered the entire platform independently: relational schema design, backend API, administrative interfaces, hybrid mobile applications, brand logo, and UI/UX design. This was also my first production migration to the Laravel framework and my first published application on Google Play.
Leones del Caracas
One of the premier franchises in Venezuelan professional baseball. I was brought in on recommendation by a colleague familiar with my Chispa Sport work: the team maintained an internal web-based statistical repository whose previous developer had abruptly departed.
I spent two months working from their corporate offices maintaining and expanding that web platform—native PHP connecting directly to MySQL—optimizing database queries and integrating new advanced metrics requested by coaching and management. I also engineered an identity credentialing and badge generation system for stadium and team staff, applying learnings from a credentialing platform I built for the Vargas State Health Directorate seven years earlier.
Estratégico Digital
A three-to-four month contract in 2016 for a Colombian creative agency, developing bespoke WordPress themes. The agency produced custom graphic designs for clients rather than using pre-made templates; my responsibility was translating these designs into clean, modular WordPress themes from scratch, utilizing custom post types, taxonomies, and PHP templates.
A Principle Reflecting How I Work
Following my work with Leones del Caracas, Chispa Sport pitched an official team app proposal that I designed entirely. When the overall client engagement was paused in 2016, I chose not to publish or commercialize the app independently, even though I had engineered the entire codebase, because the product concept rightfully belonged to the client.
