Context
An enterprise management platform constructed on the Yii PHP framework had lost critical segments of its production source code following severe server corruption. The system was not down due to a standard operational bug: entire modules and controllers were physically missing, rendering the application inoperable and leaving stakeholders uncertain of its exact internal logic.
The system governed the nationwide inventory of musical instruments and institutional assets for El Sistema (Venezuela's world-renowned network of youth and children's orchestras). This operational scope underscored what was at stake: the platform could not be leisurely rebuilt from scratch, because active nationwide logistics, ongoing distribution processes, and historical ledger records depended on its immediate revival.
My Role
Comprehensive static analysis of the surviving codebase, schema introspection, and methodical reverse-engineering to reconstruct the missing architectural layers, controllers, and data pipelines until the system achieved full operational restoration.
Why the Engagement Was Uniquely Challenging
Recovering an incomplete codebase is an entirely different intellectual problem than diagnosing a bug in a functioning application. In a standard defect, you know what should happen and investigate why execution diverges; here, one had to deduce what ought to happen from fragmentary evidence: database foreign key constraints, table indexing conventions, Yii framework architectural idioms, and the observable behaviors of surviving modules.
Outcome
The system was fully restored and returned to active production.
