Mar 2013 — Jul 2014 · Estudio Creativo Saltamontes C.A. · Co-founder and Creative Director

Independent studio building web platforms, mobile apps, and bespoke software: fifteen client websites, a mobile app for the Scouts Association of Venezuela, and an in-browser graphics editor for custom phone cases.

The Studio

I co-founded the agency in March 2013 with Gabriel Quintero, a frequent collaborator from OrugaFilms and Imvinet, immediately after departing the latter. Our studio was located in Caracas within the same commercial building as Imvinet, leased to us by their managing director.

I served as creative director—leading visual design, branding, and UX across all projects—while continuing hands-on software development, client management, and technical delivery. This period marked a transition where responsibility moved beyond pure code into commercial development: pitching, estimating budgets, and delivering complete projects.

Key Deliverables

Approximately fifteen custom websites for various regional clients, initially utilizing Joomla before transitioning entirely to WordPress and WooCommerce for eCommerce. We built a cross-platform mobile application in PhoneGap with a PHP backend for the Scouts Association of Venezuela, featuring news feeds and push notifications. We also delivered a custom web payroll management system for a private security company.

In-Browser Custom Phone Case Graphic Editor

For a manufacturer specializing in printed custom mobile phone covers, I engineered an interactive graphical editor inside the web browser—essentially a streamlined browser-based Photoshop. It has its own project case study.

Managing Beyond What You Code

A major industrial manufacturing firm commissioned an internal training portal covering workplace safety and compliance certifications that had to be built on .NET, a stack our studio did not use. Rather than rejecting the contract or improvising, we hired external .NET developers while I led the technical project management: coordinating sprints, reviewing architecture, and leading client communications.

It was my first time managing software development in a technology stack I could not code myself. The takeaway was fundamental: leading engineering is fundamentally about understanding the underlying problem, defining scope, and steering team velocity, rather than personal mastery of every specific tool.

Chispa Sport

Chispa Sport began here as a studio client seeking a baseball and softball statistics solution. Following the studio's closure, I continued collaborating with them independently, driving the core development that defined my next career phase.
